High-Performance Workplace

Your organisation too has to consult faster and faster. As a result, knowledge workers are assigned more ad hoc tasks. Think of urgent quotations or an unexpected extra presentation. Sufficient information and expertise is available to complete these tasks. However, knowledge workers have difficulties finding the required data and experts. Inter Access offers the solution with the High-Performance Workplace: a new vision on knowledge and information management which has been translated into a series of innovative solutions.

Information processing as a core problem

These days, knowledge workers often spend more time on unplanned assignments than on their actual tasks. This is why a delay in work processes is not caused by 'information overload', but by 'processing undercapacity'. A better performance therefore requires a different way of processing information. Routine tasks can easily be automated, but to support non-routine tasks, the ICT infrastructure has to be configured for direct access to and sharing of knowledge and information for ad hoc tasks.

From organisation to technology

To enable faster access to information and expertise, the organisation has to be the starting point. First the knowledge processes and the delaying factors have to be made clear. Think of processes in the area of discovery, collaboration, learning, innovation and guidance. Next it has to be determined how to solve these bottlenecks. In this, Inter Access is able to cleverly combine organisational changes with new technology, for example: social software, e-dashboards, tagging methodologies, team spaces, messaging/conferencing tools and role-based portals.

From concept to solution

The High-Performance Workplace concept is implemented in different ways. This is understandable, because every organisation works differently. But the common starting question is how the regular range of tasks compares to the number of ad hoc assignments and how fast knowledge workers are able to complete these tasks. The latter has to do with the way your employees perform, handle knowledge, collaborate and use leadership to set changes in motion. In assessing these aspects, we do not take your place, but we deliberately choose dialogue. You know your own organisation best and therefore you are able to indicate the value of your knowledge processes.

A systematic approach

The first step to a High-Performance Workplace is organising a Value Discovery Workshop which will give insight into the value of non-routine tasks and the factors which delay information and knowledge processes. The final result is a report containing valuable recommendations and scenarios to support these tasks using ICT tools. The next step is an Architecture Workshop which will make clear what the bottlenecks in the ICT infrastructure are and how you can solve them. Our Proof of concept will demonstrate what the results of these improvements will be in real terms in your particular situation.

Technological possibilities

In building a Proof of concept and developing a High-Performance Workplace system, Inter Access has experience with the technology of all leading suppliers:

  • IBM: WebSphere software (including portal, content management), Lotus Quikr (team places), Lotus Connections (social software), Lotus Notes (e-mail/calendaring), Lotus Sametime (direct messaging and video conferencing).
  • Microsoft: SharePoint (team spaces), Exchange (e-mail/calendaring), Live Communication Server (direct messaging and video conferencing), Office (productivity tools), Groove Server (collaboration).
  • SAP: for example portal solutions, business intelligence software and Duet integration with Microsoft.
  • Oracle: Webcentre Suite. Cisco: products for the necessary bandwidth and security.

In short: if you wish to improve your knowledge workers' performance with High-Performance Workplace, Inter Access offers support during the whole process of analysis, advice, integration, implementation and management.
